Recognizing Candida Symptoms

In recent years people have begun to correlate the frequent use of antibiotics and a diet high in refined sugars with the emergence of Candida symptoms.  Candida Albicans is natural occurring yeast that lives in the body and usually can be found in the mouth, throat, intestinal tract and genitals. In a normal situation Candida performs a very important job that keeps the body’s level of bacteria in balance. However, when it is thrown out of balance it can cause all sorts of problems.

Candida symptoms appear as a broad range of physical and emotional responses to an overgrowth in the system. People often overlook the presence of Candida because of this. The most commonly recognized Candida symptoms in women is the vaginal yeast infection. Many women are prone to yeast infections particularly after taking a course of antibiotics. Hormonal fluctuations cause a rise in yeast as well and Candida symptoms will occur just prior to menstruation each month. Vaginitis and rectal itching are also associated with an overgrowth of Candida.

Digestive problems, frequent stomach aches and abdominal gas are also common Candida symptoms. It has been associated with Irritable Bowel and acid reflux as well. Diarrhea and constipation are common as well. One of the most common symptoms of the presence of a Candida overgrowth is food cravings, particularly cravings for sugar, alcohol and breads.

Skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema and acne are also Candida symptoms as are itchy skin, headaches and migraines. Increased sensitivity to allergens and sinus inflammation can be caused by Candida, as can a persistent cough, earaches, sore throat and a heightened sensitivity to fragrances or chemicals.  Thrush, nail fungus and athlete’s foot are also symptoms of Candida.

An overgrowth of Candida can also make itself known with regularly occurring canker sores, mouth blisters, or a sore throat. Some people experience a burning tongue or a white coating on the tongue. Bad breath can be a result of Candida as well.

Candida symptoms often appear as mood disorders such as depression, obsessive compulsive behavior, anger outbursts, irritability, mood swings, hyperactivity and anxiety. You may feel foggy headed or spaced out and have difficulty concentrating. It is also common to feel constantly tired and easily fatigued and have trouble remembering things. Learning new things may seem more difficult than it did in the past.

Weight gain is commonly associated with Candida as well as is hypoglycemia, hypothyroidism and hormone imbalances. It can cause or aggravate endometriosis, PMS, irregular menstruation, genital rashes as well as impotence, infertility and sexual dysfunction. Chronic pain and fibromyalgia may be symptoms as well.

Candida symptoms are broad and cover many common ailments. They often build up over time or are brought on by taking several courses of antibiotics over a short period of time.
